Workshops and seminars

There are a variety of live virtual or in-person workshops and seminars that offer learning opportunities to scientists and students working with the Rubin data products and services.

Rubin Science Assemblies

Every Thursday morning at 9:00am Pacific. Virtual.

Each assembly starts with announcements. Weeks alternate between a presentation (e.g., a tutorial) and open drop-in time for Q&A with Rubin staff (i.e., an office hour). All are welcome. Assemblies are recorded and linked from the schedule.

Rubin Data Academy

Annually for one week in June, in multiple timezones. Virtual.

A series of interactive tutorials and networking sessions provide an accelerated learning experience with the Rubin data products, pipelines, and services. Student participation is encouraged. Academy sessions are recorded and linked from the webpage.

Rubin Community Workshop

Annually for one week in July/August in the USA. In-person and virtual.

A science-focused conference of contributed posters, talks, and sessions led by members of the Rubin science community and Rubin staff. All are welcome. Sessions are recorded and made available via the website.

Custom tutorials and seminars

Requests for custom tutorials and seminars are be considered by the Rubin Community Science team. For example, group “onboarding” seminars (e.g., account set up, introduction to Rubin data products and tools) or domain-specific interactive tutorials that cater to a research group's particular interests.

Due to the limited resources, priority will be given to requests from scientists at small and underserved institutions (SUIs), primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs), and minority-serving institutions (MSIs). Requests sent at least 6 weeks in advance are more likely to be accommodated. To broaden the participation of the Rubin community in the activity, one or both of the following should be adopted.

• The request should have a specific plan to include scientists and/or students at SUIs. For example, the activity could take place at a SUI or include funding access to the activity for scientists from SUIs.
• The main activity (not including Q&A), should be recorded and made publicly available to be linked on this page. Alternatively, the recording can be shared to be posted by the Community Science Team.
